When asked what inspires her to give back to her community, Margaret Potorski credits her mother, who taught her a lesson that stuck:
"Live, give, care and share." Margaret recalls growing up with less - drinking powdered milk or having the electricity shut off. But her mother still wanted to share what they had. "Even though we had very little, she always said if someone needs it more than us, they should take it." That example has defined Margaret's commitment to her community. A Georgetown resident, she has volunteered at ONT since 2017, including through the pandemic, and has performed virtually every job. She works the market, does deliveries, stocks shelves and works in the warehouse - her favorite because she likes to keep moving. "Its a great workout. You don't have to go to the gym that day." But her giving doesn't stop at ONT. She supports several other food providers across the North Shore and Merrimack Valley, with a specific passion for food rescue. If a retailer or agency has extra food, she finds another agency that needs it. It's what her mother taught her, and how she honors her legacy. "The most important any of us can do is cut a check, give 15 minutes of our time or just smile to make someone's day. There has to be a way to give back. It doesn't cost a lot, and it doesn't take a lot." Thank you Margaret for all you do!
